Security is a very important aspect of the private and public sector. Security Guards provide protection for people, property and assets. They are hired to make sure that assets including humans and buildings are safe and secure from any danger. They are hired by both public and government organizations to provide different services on different occasions. They are also hired on a regular basis as well. Their job is to maintain security, control crowds, handle any emergency situation which occurs and keep a check on authorized access. Proper training is needed to acquire all of the skills to become skilful security personnel.
According to the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, the private security sector as a whole has over $8 billion turnover: $4 billion in the manpower sector, and $4 billion in the electronics sector. The private sector in some areas has resources and capabilities beyond those of government. It has deployed huge number of personnel responsible for guarding assets and events and for providing immediate response to an incident. It is estimated that more than 210,000 individual security industry licenses have been issued by the eight jurisdictions, and of those 190,000 are for security guards and crowd controllers in Australia. This figure of 210,000 may be overstated as some individuals hold multiple licenses.
