This training course will provide you with the basic skills and knowledge to respond to an emergency situation at home or while out and about. You will learn to provide life support and the management of a casualty of any age until the arrival of medical assistance.

This course teaches special techniques for children and infants so is ideal for new mums and all parents who want to be prepared with the skills and confidence to respond without hesitation in the case of an emergency

Entry Requirements

  • There are no qualification pre-requisites for this course
  • Learners must be aged 16 years or older
  • Photo Identification is required to be sited prior to course commencement
  • Language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Learners must be physically capable of bending and kneeling to provide first aid to a person on the floor. This includes performing CPR for up to 5 minutes.
  • Completed enrolment form
  • Payment of the course cost

Mode of Delivery

Delivery of this course will be trainer led, face to face in a classroom setting combined with skills practice assessment.

Course Materials

Learner training is supported through the provision of quality learning materials and resources. Learners should attend the course in comfortable appropriate clothing. All equipment and consumable is supplied as part of the course

Assessment Summary

The student will be assessed by demonstrating procedure applicable to this unit. They will also be required to answer a number of oral and written questions regarding their actions and theoretical application of knowledge. The assessment will also be part of a simulated activity set by the assessor. This activity must be conducted by an assessor or Optimistic Futures and must be completed in the workplace or in another environment that accurately simulates the workplace. The assessor is too actively set tasks for the student and must observe these tasks being performed.

To standardise the application of the assessment, the assessment tasks (required skills and knowledge) are based on those specified in the Unit of Competency, HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation The assessor will use an assessment instrument mapped accordingly to the assessment requirements of this unit of competency. Assessors will apply an assessment procedure to ensure you are ready for the assessment and have the right resources and equipment to achieve the right standard.
